Handpainted Glass Display Cabinet

£965.00

One of my Painter In Residence pieces for Annie Sloan!

This beautiful glass cabinet had huge potential but was damaged and lacking a little life. I didn’t want to restrict its purpose by restricting the view of the inside so I decided to paint the glass to create a piece that celebrates pattern and also enhances the original design of the cabinet. I sealed each section on the glass with Matt Lacquer but waxed the main body using Clear Wax.

I really feel like this piece sings now and, whilst it is grounded and soft in many ways, it also has a contemporary, abstract, artsy feel which references my love of pattern and colour.

The colour palette was important and I planned this before I started, using a wide range of colours that worked well as a collective: Primer Red for the main body, Scandinavian Pink, Paprika Red, Duck Egg Blue, Coolabah Green, Country Grey and Coco.

I’d say the biggest inspiration for this project was the piece itself and letting it the design just flow by responding to its character.

@anniesloanhome instagram says, ‘A piece so striking, you’d hardly guess the frames were there. The final piece reflects Tristan’s signature aesthetic.’
